Nor are there any documents of its celebration in other locations in the national territory as we know it today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Historians associate it with the burial of the piglet. It consisted of burying animal parts to usher in Lent, leaving the Carnival festivities behind. This tradition was celebrated in the 19th century, and even Francisco de Goya depicted it in one of his paintings.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In our area, La Mancha, the truth is that there hasn\u2019t been tradition to celebrate the burial of the sardine, much less in times of prohibitions, where parades and concentrations were not authorized, being persecuted to prevent their celebration.<\/p>\n<h4>The Pe\u00f1a la Cabra precursor<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was in 1982 when a small group of carnival-goers, mostly members of the Pe\u00f1a la Cabra, decided to continue the carnival celebrations in Miguelturra. That Ash Wednesday, they took to the streets, and as Carnival King Seraf\u00edn tells us, &#8220;<em><strong>this was done, planned, done<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A box and two sticks, constitute the funeral box, a fresh sardine is the first deceased. Since that time and respecting tradition, is the starting point of the Burial of the Sardine of the Carnival of Miguelturra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1983, it was included in the carnival program, always organized by the <strong>Pe\u00f1a la Cabra<\/strong>. A 6-meter-long sardine was made, becoming a traditional event of the Churriego carnival. <strong>A pioneering burial among the area&#8217;s carnivals<\/strong>, it spread to the rest of the region&#8217;s carnivals.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With its inclusion in the Carnival program, the funeral procession, is accompanied by a charanga that gives joy and color to the event, for the enjoyment and uproar of the mourners of the unfortunate sardine.<\/p>\n<h4>Up to three sardines were made<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the years of greater affluence and participation in the funeral, mainly due to the large affluence of curious people from towns where the event was not celebrated, up to three sardines of 6, 4.50 and 3 meters in length were made, accompanied of two charangas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nowadays, two sardines are made, one of 6 meters and one inflatable of 1.80 meters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The funeral march, runs through the central streets of the town between sorrows and joys, cries, laughter, sobs, some fainting and above all, gibberish. The mourners finish the tour in the traditional crematorium, where both the major and infant sardines will be incinerated.<\/p>\n<h4>A delicious ending<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event concludes with the cremation of the ill-fated sardines. Silver flakes are interspersed on special occasions, such as the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Pe\u00f1as Association, or this year, for the photo montage on the carnavaldemiguelturra.es website. <\/p>\n<h4>Currently two sardines are being made<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two sardines are made, one of 6 meters and one of 1.80 meters for children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The skeleton is formed by a plywood base, adhered with contact glue. Two 2-centimeter-thick sponge molds form the covering, and the interior will be filled with several kilos of chopped sponge. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the process, the components of Pe\u00f1a, cut one by one the scales that will cover the structure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the structure has reached the appropriate width and shape, the sponge bases are sealed and left to dry for several days. The hundreds of scales that make up the sardine will then be glued together. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, several pieces of cardboard will be inserted into the head and the fish will be shaped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A great work directed by the most veteran of the rock, that year after year, they make the sardines and they teach the young ones so that the tradition is not lost.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\"
