Get to know me, Miguelturra Carnival. 40+5 Anniversary Association of Peñas
On Friday, February 6, 2026, the digital edition of the book was presented at CERE and is available for download on this page. A special, limited print edition of approximately 200 copies has also been produced, aimed at collectors and lovers of printed books.
By the Miguelturreño author Berna Martínez, «Get to know me, Miguelturra Carnival. 40+5 Anniversary of the Association of Peñas»this digital book offers a journey through the Carnival of Miguelturra, with a special focus on the last 45 years, coinciding with the 45th Anniversary of the Carnival Association. It is an expanded version of the work published in 2022 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary.
A wide range of photographs from 1935 to the present day
The book comprises 156 pages and includes nearly a thousand photographs and historical documents related to the carnival. This new edition expands its content with new posters, information on carnival criers and the main carnival figures; the pre-carnival festivities through two major activities: the comparsas and chirigotas (satirical singing groups) from Cádiz, promoted by the Cansaliebres, which offer a glimpse into the Cádiz Carnival, and the Cultural Days, organized by Francisco Manuel Peco; the carnival ambassadors; and concludes with the inauguration of the carnival monument, composed of the Mascarona and the Alhiguí.
This is a collaborative project involving twelve contributors and twenty-five photographers. To obtain the oldest images, over forty private collections were accessed, and approximately forty documentary collections were consulted and used for the writing and compilation of documents related to carnival, and especially to the carnival of Miguelturra.
A work begun in 2007, the fruits of which are reflected on the official website of the Association of Peñas, carnavaldemiguelturra.es, as well as in videos, collaborations with public institutions and carnival clubs, and in numerous articles published in the written and digital press. All of this culminates in these two great books that cover our carnival: the first in 2022, with a circulation of 1,200 copies, and this second in 2026, in free digital format, for the enjoyment of carnival-goers from all over the world.
