The 2019 Carnival’s Major Masks, Antonio and Mª Paz, have been presented.
At 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31st, in the Town Hall plenary hall, Antonio Rodrigo Donate and Mª Paz del Hierro Cabrera, the 2019 Miguelturra Carnival’s Major Masks, were presented to the media. This year, with an added responsibility, they will be the first Major Masks as a Carnival of National Tourist Interest.
The event was attended by the town’s Mayor, Victoria Sobrino, Councilor for Festivals, Diego Rodríguez, Carnival King Serafín Delgado, President of the Miguelturra Carnival Association, Raúl Domínguez, and the 2018 Major Masks, Orestes and Mª del Carmen. They expressed their satisfaction and recognized the great commitment they have made to being the first Senior Masks in our Carnival’s debut as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Committed to the Miguelturra Carnival
Antonio Rodrigo Donate and Mª Paz del Hierro Cabrera are married and both 58 years old. They have a daughter, Beatriz, and two sons, Oscar and Antonio.
Antonio is a native of Miguelturra and a builder in his professional life. He is currently the President of the Oriente Neighborhood Association and his greatest hobby is sports. Mª Paz was born in Piedrabuena and works professionally as a home care assistant. She also serves on the board of the Oriente Neighborhood Association, where she is a member. Her hobbies include bobbin lace, music, and reading.
Orestes and Mª del Carmen have been their mentors and will be their guides throughout the 2019 Carnival, as is traditional in our carnival.
Antonio’s greatest supporter during Carnival has always been María Paz. She’s also the one who has prepared and made his costumes. We’ve seen him dressed as a Cardinal at the Burial of the Sardine, accompanying Pope Kulata III, as US President Ronald Reagan, as a grandmother, a gypsy, a Chinese man, and a naughty child. He’s also been handing out milk and sweets dressed as a milkman, or occasionally giving the Dead Man the fright, but his main costume has always been as a Street Mask.
For her part, Mª Paz hasn’t been left behind when it comes to dressing up. We’ve seen her on our streets dressed as Pantoja, a witch, a cheerleader, a clown, a period costume, and a housewife. She always accompanies her sons and daughter to the children’s carnival. The Street Mask is also her favorite costume.
Congratulations and enjoy the upcoming 2019 Carnival like never before. This year, it was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
