Around 7:30 p.m. in the Spain Square, the concentration of masks and Peñas began to begin the proclamation of the Major Masks of Carnival 2017.

Organized by the Peña Los Cansaliebres, the parade toured the streets of the town to pick up José and Antonia, dressed in their corresponding gala costume for such a special occasion.

Subsequently, the entire delegation traveled to the headquarters of the Peña Los Cansaliebres, where attendees were able to enjoy the punch and lemonade that the members of the Peña had prepared.

The Carnival Palace is packed to welcome the new pair of Major Masks

At 9:00 p.m., with a packed Carnival Palace welcoming José Cañizares and Antonia Nieto, the proclamation ceremony began. The event was attended by local authorities, senior masks from 2016, and those from previous years. The Carnival King, members of the local Peñas (Clubs), and representatives of the Peñas Association were also present.

On stage and in the presence of the mayor, Victoria Sobrino, the celebration councilor, Diego Rodríguez, the King of Carnival, Serafín Delgado and the President of the Association of Peñas, Raúl Domínguez, the major masks of 2016 José Muñoz and Mercedes Rivas, have awarded the accreditation band of Major Masks of the Miguelturra Carnival 2017 to José Cañizares and Antonia Nieto.

The outgoing senior masks, José and Mercedes, have expressed their gratitude for the support they received from their predecessors.

José Cañizares and Antonia Nieto, great carnival enthusiasts, also expressed their gratitude to all those who have supported them in being here today. They stated that they will do their best to live up to the standards of their predecessors in the masked couples as representatives of the Churriego carnival.

From now on, José and Antonia will become part of the great carnival family of the Major Masks Peña.
