A sweet Monday with a carnival flavor

The frying pan fruit contests and the “leaving a mark” contest, along with the street mask, are the most important events of Carnival Monday.

Carnival Monday dawned rainy, but it didn’t stop the activities scheduled for Carnival Monday from taking place.

At 12:30 p.m. the XXXV FRYING PAN FRUIT CONTEST began within the CERE facilities due to the rain and was held with the presence of the President of the Provincial Council, José Manuel Caballero, Mayor of Miguelturra, Victoria Sobrino, Vice President of the Provincial Council, David Triguero, Councilor for Celebrations, Diego Rodríguez, Councilors of the City Council of Miguelturra, Carmen Mohíno, Pedro Mellado and Miguel Ángel García, Major Masks 2017, José Cañizares and Antonia Nieto and the Major Masks 2018, Orestes Corrral and Mª del Carmen León.

The Peña los Rocheros organized the event, and Octavio Martín made the lemonade, which is always delicious.

The first prizes were sponsored by the Natural Chef Cooking School, consisting of two cooking courses valued at 70 euros each. The second prizes were sponsored by El Colmao and Hecón Construction Tools, and received a batch of traditional products valued at 40 euros. The winners also received a case of liquor sponsored by La Gaditana and the traditional Carnival Ceramics.

At around 4:30 p.m., the Leaving a Trace competition began, a costumed animal exhibition organized by the Kapikua Association. The winners were:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Prizes, “Hulk”, “Turquesa”, “Trufa y Yeko” and Jorry, vouchers of 50 euros each, sponsored by the Miguelturra City Council and redeemable at the Didí or Simbiosis dog grooming salon
  • 5th to 7th Prize, “Nucca”, “Xana” and “Aria”, a 15-kilogram bag of food each valued at 45 euros sponsored and redeemable at Simbiosis.
  • 8th to 12th Prize, “Yaky”, “Kira”, “Nora”, “Tayson” and “Márquez”, a 3-kilogram bag of feed each valued at 12 euros sponsored and redeemable at Symbiosis.
  • Special prize: a costume made from recycled materials, “Wendy,” with a 45 euro voucher, sponsored and redeemable at Didí.

The evening began with a gathering of Street Masks near Spanish Square, starting at 7:00 p.m. They filled Carnaval Street with joy and color, teasing unsuspecting passersby with shouts of “I bet you don’t know me!”
