III Cultural Days of the Miguelturra Carnival
Conferences, live cooking, tastings with history, workshops and dramatized visits
To the eleven days that our carnival lasts this year, we add a week of Pre-Carnival with cultural days
Francisco Manuel Peco, director of the events, and Carmen María Mohíno, Councilor for Celebrations, presented the events that include a varied menu of activities prior to the carnival.
The 3rd Carnival Cultural Days will have two distinct venues. The first part will feature historical tastings, which will be held on February 18, 19, and 20 at the Taskarnaval tavern, entitled “Among Masks and Vineyards, a Taste of Carnival History.” The second part will feature the traditional events on February 21, 22, and 23, with the Carnival Palace as the main venue.
The tastings will consist of four tapas, accompanied by wines related to each of the carnival stories and priced at 14 euros.
The conference begins on Friday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. with the reception of participants and a visit to the Carnival Museum.
The Almadén carnival is present at the cultural events
At 6:00 p.m., the opening ceremony will include a talk by the director of the event, entitled “Carnivals in the Province of Ciudad Real”. This will be followed by a discussion with Eduardo Manuel García about the Almadén Carnival. Following the talk, the panel discussion will begin, entitled “Mask, Joke, and Satire Today”. The first day will conclude with a dramatized tour by Flauti Flauti Teatro at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, February 22nd, at 10:30 a.m., a conference will be held, “Masks and Silences: The Miguelturra Carnival in the Press (1845-1980)”, with Rafael Sánchez as the speaker. Later, Román González will discuss “Music in Carnival”, with a panel discussion on the Major Masks.
Starting at 12:30 p.m. we will have a children’s street mask workshop led by Flauti Flauti Teatro and a frying pan fruit master class led by Rita Gómez.
The morning session on Saturday will end with the conference ‘The mask: meanings, myths and symbolism’ with José Ramón González Fernández.
