Proclamation of the Major Masks 2025

Berna and Esther, the new Major Masks of the Miguelturra Carnival

Saturday, March 1st, marked another day in the history of the Miguelturra Carnival. After the first few hours of the day, when the streets were filled with masks, costumes, and colors, the center of the carnival moved to the Spain Square. There, hundreds of people gathered in costume to accompany the new Major Masks of the Miguelturra Carnival, all organized by the Peña Los Cansaliebres.

The procession first headed to the home of the new Major Masks, Berna and Esther, and then continued to the Peña los Cansaliebres, where they offered refreshments to replenish their strength before heading to the Carnival Palace, which was already waiting for the proclamation of the new pair of Major Masks.

A packed Carnival Palace hosted this event, where the renewal of the bands of the Major Masks from 2002 to 2007 began.

Antonio de Toro, Estrella Yébenes, Casimiro Donate, Eufrasia Delgado, Resti Corral and Santa Muñoz were some of our great masks that have received their well-deserved band renewal.

The municipal and carnival authorities then took the stage. On one side were the mayor of the town, Luis Ramón Mohíno; the councilor for culture and festivities, Carmen María Mohíno; and the councilor for tourism, Miguel Ángel García Llorente.

The carnival representation included the President of the Association of Peñas, Raúl Domínguez, Carnival King, Serafín Delgado, President of the Peña Los Cansaliebres, Alberto Soria and the 2024 Senior Masks, Rafael Gómez and M.ª Luisa Ocaña.

Thus arrived the most anticipated moment for all those present, when the bands were placed on the throne and the certificates certifying the 2025 Carnival Major Masks and ceramics were presented to the new and beloved couple: Bernardino Martínez and M.ª Esther Martínez.

Esther Martínez and Berna Martínez have been proclaimed the 52nd Major Masks Couple of the Miguelturra Carnival.

Berna and Esther wanted to thank the seamstresses of their “Clandestine Workshop”, made up of Eli, Lola, Pili, Mari, and Encarni, by giving them a ceramic piece from the 2025 Miguelturra Carnival. The event concluded with a large family photo with officials, friends, and relatives of the 2025 Major Masks.

But the night didn’t end there, as it was time for the dancing. The Carnival Palace and the Workers’ Center were the venues, as were numerous street venues where music from brass bands and floats provided the soundtrack to the most carnival-filled Saturday night of the year.
