“La Victoria” first prize in Murgas and Chirigotas for the second consecutive year
With the song “The Journey of My Life” he won first prize in the 35th Murga and Chirigota Contest
Once the Carnival Museum Costume Competition concluded, the 35th edition of the 2018 Miguelturra Carnival Murga and Chirigota Contest began.
The La Victoria troupe from Puertollano, through “The Journey of My Life,” portrayed the difficult situations faced by African migrants in their quest for a better future, while the Los Cansaliebres troupe from Miguelturra, with their “Apaja… y vamonos,” gave a humorous account of current municipal events.
The Flamencos of the Barranco de Torralba de Calatrava and their song “Sintron… ni son” brought the difficulties of retirees and their new responsibilities to the stage.
Manola’s ass from Daimiel and “Like my ass, no one”, with a very Daimiel theme on its 25th Anniversary.
To pee and not to spill a drop from Alcázar de San Juan and their “Whims of the sea” came on stage dressed as sailors and finally Los fusionaos from Alcázar de San Juan brought us the San Isidro festivities and their peculiar bridesmaids.
The situation in Catalonia was the most frequently mentioned topic in the verses of the participating groups.
Awards
The jury, composed of José Vicente Romero, composer and music teacher, Javier Vallejo, master’s degree holder in bassoon performance, Rosa María Vallejo, senior voice teacher, and Víctor López, senior guitar teacher, awarded the following prizes:
1st Prize 600 euros, La Victoria of Puertollano, theme “The journey of my life”
2nd Prize 500 euros, Los Flamencos del Barranco of Torralba de Calatrava, theme “Sintron… ni son”
3rd Prize: 400 euros, Pa pee y no sacar gota by Alcázar de San Juan, theme “The Whims of the Sea”
4th Prize 250 euros, Los Fusionaos from Alcázar de San Juan, theme “The Pillars of the Earth”
5th Prize 150 euros, El culo de la Manola by Daimiel, theme “Like my ass, no one”
The awards ceremony was led by the Councillor for Festivities, Diego Rodríguez, King of the Carnival, Serafín Delgado, Raúl Domínguez, President of the Miguelturra Carnival Association, Orestes Corral and Mª del Carmen León, Major Masks 2018, José Cañizares and Antonia Nieto, Major Masks 2017. All the awards were sponsored by the Miguelturra Town Council.
