The streets of Miguelturra are filled with masks racing with the 14th edition of the “La Churriega” Masked Race.
The Street Mask returns to the streets of Miguelturra on the second Saturday of Carnival. Several hundred masks have participated in the 14th edition of the La Churriega mask race. This is a non-competitive race organized by the Miguelturra Long-Distance Runners Association.
From 5:00 p.m. a large group of street masks gathered in Dr. Fleming Square the starting location was a novelty in 2025, when March 8th was commemorated with the reading of a manifesto prior to the start of the race.
The Mayor of Miguelturra, Luis Ramón Mohíno, Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Carmen María Mohíno, President of the Cultural Association of Peñas, Raúl Domínguez, the Major Masks of 2025, Berna and Esther, and those of last year, 2024, Rafa and M.ª Luisa, were all present.
A closed circuit for the enjoyment of our Street Mask.
The circuit began and ended near the Carnival Palace, passing through the town center in a race that enjoyed a great carnival atmosphere.
This race brings back old memories of those years in which the carnival was prohibited and where the races were not for fun, but to avoid arrest by the night watchmen and the civil guard, in addition to the corresponding fine.
At the end of the race, all participants were given hot chocolate and pastries, a gift from the “Nuestra Señora de la Estrella” Widows Association. Finally, more calories were burned with the Zumba Fitness Workshop taught by Nuria Sánchez.
