La Cabra and El Puntillo triumph in the Carnaval Museum Costumes Contest

El Puntillo in the man’s suit and La Cabra in the woman’s, Mª Carmen Corral León, first individual prize

The Palace of the Carnival is refilled to witness the XXXIV Carnival Costumes Contest. At 21:30 h., The local Peñas presented their costumes with those who will participate in the Pinata Sunday parade. The winning costumes in the modality of men and women, will remain during the next five years in the Carnival Museum ‘MOMO’.

The awards were the following:

Individual Costume

Prize 200 euros sponsored by Certrade Azulejos y Pavimentos, Mª Carmen Corral León theme “Tributo al Circo del Sol”

Women’s Constume

Premio 400 euros sponsored by the City Council of Miguelturra, Peña La Cabra, theme “Cultura Precolombina” 

Men’s Constume

Premio 400 euros sponsored by the City Council of Miguelturra, Peña El Puntillo, theme “La Conquista del Oeste”

Once this contest was over and while the jury was deliberating, the prizes of the III Carnival Showcase Contest were handed out, this event has caused the shops in the town to show the festive and carnival atmosphere that Miguelturra breathes on these dates.

The event has been organized by the Association of Small Commerce and the City Council of Miguelturra. The jury composed by Diego Rodríguez, Councilman of Celebrations of the City council of Miguelturra, Julián Arévalo and Raúl Domínguez, president of the Carnival Association of Miguelturra, granted the following prizes:

Best Composition and Design Award, gift voucher sponsored by Viajes Rodrigo and Rodrigo’s Inmobiliaria,  for Óptica Lara.

Originality and Innovation Award,  gift voucher sponsored by Distribuciones Sacra, for El Colmao.

Special Audience Award, gift voucher for a trip sponsored by the City Council of Miguelturra, for Disfrutería de Alba.

All the winners received the corresponding diploma, mask of the carnival, 30 spots of publicity in Radio Miguelturra and an announcement of 8 by 11 in the BIM of the month of April.

 

 

A Monday of disguise and gastronomy

The Frying Pan Fruit contest and the street mask, the most important carnival events on Monday

At 12:30 h. the XXXVI Frying Pan Fruit Contest began at the CERE facilities, with the presence of the Mayor of Miguelturra, Victoria Sobrino, Councilman of Celebrations, Diego Rodríguez, members of the Municipal Corporation, Carmen Mohíno, Pedro Mellado and Miguel Angel García, 2018 major masks, Orestes Corral and Mª Carmen León and the 2019 major masks, Antonio Rodrigo and Mª Paz del Hierro.

The Peña Rocheros, have been the organizers of the event and Octavio Martín has elaborated lemonade, which is always exquisite. The SER channel broadcast live during the celebration of the event.

The first prizes were sponsored by the City Council of Miguelturra consisting of 60 euros each, the second prizes sponsored by ‘El Colmao de Miguelturra’ and each one of them with a batch of products valued at 40 euros. All the winners received a box of liquors sponsored by La Gaditana and the traditional Carnival Pottery.

The late night began with the concentration of Masks Street in the vicinity of the Plaza de España, from 19:00 h. They filled Carnival Street with joy and color, joking the naive strollers to the cry of “What don’t you know me?

The television program ‘Wide is Castilla-La Mancha’ did not want to miss the event and broadcast live from Carnaval Street.

 

Antonio and Mª Paz proclaimed Major Masks 2019

New Major Masks for the Carnival of Miguelturra, the first with declaration of National Tourist Interest

As of today, Antonio and Mª Paz, are also from the Peña de Mascaras Mayores, a large family of illustrious carnival.

At 18:30 h., Began the concentration of the delegation in the Plaza de España, to accompany and tour the streets of the town with Mª Paz and Antonio. A large group of street masks, members of the local Peñas, Orestes and Mª Carmen, major masks 2018 and other years, Serafin Delgado, King of Carnival, Raúl Domínguez, President of the Miguelturra Carnival Association, Diego Rodríguez, Councilman of Celebrations and the Mayor of Miguelturra, Victoria Sobrino, in the CERE would be added different members of the Municipal Corporation.

The retinue, paraded towards the gathering point of Antonio and Mª Paz, the Peña los Cansaliebres were in charge of the organization. At the meeting point, family and friends accompanied Mª Paz and Antonio, how excited they received the affection of the participants.

The next stopping point was the headquarters of the Peña los Cansaliebres, which prepared a great appetizer, which served as a snack for a long afternoon-night of emotions.

Around 9:00 p.m., the delegation arrived at the CERE and the Palacio del Carnaval stood to receive Mª Paz del Hierro Cabrera and Antonio Rodrigo Donate, in its proclamation as Major Masks of Miguelturra Carnival.

After the intervention of the mayor of the town, Victoria Sobrino, the new major masks took the stage for the imposition of bands that accredit them as Major Masks of Miguelturra Carnival and the corresponding diplomas, as well as the traditional bouquet of flowers, box of wine and the ceramic mask commemorative of the Carnival.

Mª Paz and Antonio, wore an impressive costume designed by themselves and based on the Carnival of Venice, that of Mª Paz made of sardón broken white with gold, with a front fold and adornment in rhinestones, skirt of layer and body fitted, the skirt has a tulle decorated with madroños and the body decorated with golden thread. Antonio’s suit, coat and trousers in black, decorated with trimmings and gold cord.

This year and as a novelty, Magdalena Yébenes, Valentín Muñoz and Octavío Martín, major masks 1984, 1985 and 1986 respectively, renewed their bands and in subsequent years will do the rest of the major masks.

Casimiro Donate and Eufrasia Delgado, older masks of 2004, were in charge of giving them the traditional mask and apron of the Peña de Mascaras Mayores that they will use on Monday in the friying pan fruit contest.

Finally, children, friends and neighbors of the Association of the Barrio de Oriente took the stage to congratulate the new couple of major masks, receiving from their children a nice gift, nothing more and nothing less than a cruise.

Antonio, Mª Paz, congratulations, you are already Major Masks of Miguelturra Carnival.

 

It’s already Carnival, National!

Nacho Guerreros, first town crier with declaration of National Tourist Interest.

The actor Nacho Guerreros, better known as ‘Coque’ in the television series ‘La que se avecina’ has given the starting signal to the Carnival of Miguelturra 2019, which for the first time are of National Tourist Interest.

The Peña Los Segadores with its charanga, as is customary in our carnival, took charge of the organization of the event and from eight o’clock in the afternoon, local, provincial and regional authorities, together with members of the Association of Peñas, Rey of the Carnival, Peñas de la localidad and Máscaras Mayores, gathered at the gates of the Town Hall in the Plaza de España to receive Nacho Guerreros.

After the reception, the delegation went to the CERE and visited the Carnival Museum ‘MOMO’. At 9:30 p.m. the long-awaited proclamation began, with a Palace of Carnival overflowing. First, I take the floor the mayor of the town, Victoria Sobrino, thanked the presence of Nacho as a crier of the Carnival of Miguelturra and invited everyone to enjoy this wonderful party, which in Miguelturra will be for the first time of Tourist Interest National.

Once the intervention of the mayor, Nacho climbed the stage of the Palace of Carnival and began the proclamation with a tour of the history of our carnival, a carnival whose history has been passed down from generation to generation and whose first written document dates from 1898 , this document can be consulted in the History section of this website.

Nacho acknowledged being excited to be the first crier with the declaration of National Tourist Interest and made a tour of the various acts that are celebrated in our carnival, burial of the sardine, friying pan fruit, parade on Sunday Piñata…

Between applause and cheers of the Peñas, Nacho was mentioning one by one the carnival Peñas of the town, not missing phrases typical of his fictional character ‘Coque’.

Once the proclamation ended, the delegation went to the silk of the Peña los Segadores and during the tour Nacho kindly attended to the people who came to be photographed with the.

Dinner Presentation Masks Major 2019

Mª Paz and Antonio appear before the Carnival community of Miguelturra

With the presence of the preacher of honor of the Carnival of Miguelturra, Guillermo Summers, the traditional dinner for the presentation of the Major Carnival Masks was celebrated.

Victoria Sobrino, mayor of the town, Diego Rodríguez, celebrations councilor, Serafin Delgado, King of Carnival, Raúl Domínguez, president of the Miguelturra Carnival Association, Orestes and Mª Carmen, Major Masks of Carnival 2018, members of the Municipal Corporation, members of the clubs, Guillermo Summers and his wife Marita, have wanted to accompany and support what will be the Major Masks of Carnival 2019, Antonio Rodrigo and Mª Paz del Hierro.

Before the start of the dinner, the delegation was able to visit the exposition ‘This Carnival interests me’, which collects the photographs of the Miguelturra Carnival photo contest since 1999.

Prior to the dinner, Victoria Sobrino, Serafin Delgado and Guillermo Summers took the floor, congratulating the new couple of Masks of the Carnival of Miguelturra and wishing them a happy journey in their new carnival stage.

Guillermo Summers, who could not be present during the celebration of the declaration of national tourist interest, wanted to be present in this act as a churriego more, since Miguelturra carries it inside his heart and for him it is his second town.

The dinner was attended by some 400 people who have tasted a menu prepared by the Casa Pepe Restaurant.

Bases XXI Photography Contest

Collaborate: RAW Photographic Collective

  1. All people who wish may participate, regardless of age or place of residence.
  2. Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 photographs in color or black and white size 20×30 or 30×45 cm.
  3. The photographs must only collect activities carried out in Miguelturra during the Carnival period 2019.
  4. It will be valued in a special way that the works highlight the characteristics of the traditional Miguelturra carnival, with special emphasis on the Street Mask. The technical and artistic quality of the works will be assessed in the same way.
  5. The photographs will be presented with a white cardboard support of 5 cm on each side, with a slogan on the back and in a separate envelope, the personal data of the author will appear.
  6. Awards:
    1st Prize: 250 euros sponsored by the City Council of Miguelturra, Carnival Pottery and one place for a photography course of choice during 2019, valued at 70 Euros, sponsored by CatBox – Academy of Visual Arts MIGUELTURRA.
    2nd Prize: 175 euros and Carnival Pottery, sponsored by the Miguelturra City Council.
    3rd Prize: 80 euros voucher sponsored and exchangeable for photo shoot in Katy Aranda Photography and Carnival Pottery.
  7. These prizes may be declared void. No author may accumulate more than one prize.
  8. Collaborate RAW Photographic Collective.
  9. With the presented works the organization will be able to realize a later exhibition in the dependences of the Market of Abastos and to show them in the web page.
  10. The jury will be composed of people of recognized solvency and its ruling will be unappealable.
  11. The awarded works will become available to the organization that may, if it deems it appropriate, edit the work, without the author having acquired rights.
  12. The non-awarded works may be withdrawn until April 30, 2018. The works not retired will become part of the archive of the Culture Area.
  13. Deadline for submission: Photographs may be delivered by hand during working hours or sent to the Casa de Cultura de Miguelturra, with address at: Street Perlerines, 26, 13170 Miguelturrra, Telephone: +34 926241090 and presented until April 10, 2019 The ruling will be made before April 30, 2019.
  14. Miguelturra City Council will take care with the greatest zeal the works submitted to the contest, but is not responsible for the deterioration or theft of the same.
  15. The mere fact of participating in the contest means compliance with the present rules.
