Memories and a lot of feeling in Your Masks Sounds Familiar

Emotional 6th Edition of the contest Your Masks Sounds Familiar

Once again the Carnival Palace is filled to witness a new event of the Miguelturra Carnival. At 7:30 p.m. the event organized by the Peña el Puntillo began, but before the first performance began, the Peña el Puntillo paid a moving tribute to one of its members, dedicating the following words to him:

“Good afternoon, everyone. Before we begin the contest, we’d like to dedicate a few words to a member of the Peña el Puntillo, who is no longer with us. Because we didn’t have the opportunity to say goodbye to him, today we want to take the opportunity, in front of his people, family, and friends, to remember him as he deserves. Iván, it’s been almost a year since you left us, and it seems like it was just yesterday when we were walking down Carnaval Street with the ham hock, or when you participated in this contest imitating Karmele Marchante, and that was a real tsunami of fun. It’s hard to forget a person like you—cheerful, generous, strong, and a friend to your friends, among many other things. Thank you for all these years that you allowed us to enjoy you and your person. You will always be with us with that joy that characterized you. We will never forget you. And finally, we want to express our condolences for the great loss of Juan Diego, better known as “Fity,” with family, friends, and the Peña la Cabra. Thank you very much, and we hope you enjoy the contest”.

After these emotional words, the contest began with impersonations of characters such as María Jiménez, Malú, Shakira, Nicky Jam, Xenotronic, Parchís, Los Morancos, Pink, Rozalén, Lina Morgan, Martirio, Pippi Longstocking, and Mary Poppins. The judges, however, were eager to be outdone, and impersonated Lola Flores, Shakira, and Cristina Aguilera.

The competition is divided into three categories: Children-Youth, Individual Adults, and Adult Groups.

Outside the competition, while the jury deliberated, the president of the Miguelturra Carnival Association, Raúl Domínguez, David Méndez, and Julián Morgotón, delighted us with impersonations by Falete, Isabel Pantoja, and Lola Flores, respectively.
