PEÑA THE GOAT

The Goat Peña was founded on March 3, 1981, Carnival Tuesday. It is currently one of the oldest clubs of the Churriego Carnival. A group of costumed friends decided to form the club and participate in all the Churriego Carnival events as a group. The club’s name comes from the billy goat the group carried on Carnival Tuesday.

It so happens that Serafín is the only president the Peña has had to date, and is also the current King of the Carnival, who, among many other things, delights the Peña with a good stew of chips, beans, or the occasional mojete.

Among the activities carried out by the Goat Peña are the collaboration, participation, and organization of various events held before, during, and after the Miguelturra Carnival. Among them, we can highlight:

Carnival museum costumes, for which it designs and makes both men’s and women’s costumes.

On Carnival Mondays, the Monographic Day is celebrated, which consists of spending the whole day entertaining with a band all those who decide to visit the main carnival streets of the town. At midday, a large meal is prepared in which the already famous HABICHUELAS DE SERAFIN are tasted, accompanied by a delicious lemonade. The activity of the monographic day can extend until well into the early hours of Tuesday.

A very peculiar burial

The Burial of the Sardine has organized this pioneering activity since 1982, the only one to have done so since its inception.
It consists of the preparation of a giant sardine, which is carried by four people through the streets of the town, accompanied by mourners and a fantastic brass band, and then cremated. All attendees who wish can enjoy some fabulous grilled sardines.

PIÑATA PARADE, the Comparsas and Floats competition is held on the second Sunday of Carnival. This group has participated every year since its creation.

CULTURAL TRIPS to different Spanish cities.

COLLABORATION with several of our City Council’s departments, such as Culture and Sports, to hold various activities.

PARTICIPATION in the Patron Saint Festivities of our Town.

From the Goat Peña, its members wish you a great and happy Carnival.
