PEÑA OF THE HARVESTERS

The Peña or the Harvesters was founded in 1981, with the initial intention of participating in the Piñata Sunday parade. Since its founding, they have participated in organizing various Churriego Carnival events.

Until then, they had been participating every day as street masks, performing parodies such as farewells to the conscripts when they left for military service, weddings, baptisms, communions, flea markets…

A tribute to farm workers

The group was named “The Harvesters” in honor of the elders who worked in the grain harvest, and this was the parade that took place in the third Piñata Sunday Parade and Float Competition in 1982.

Initially, the club was made up of 50 people, which eventually grew to 100. The first governing council was made up of Octavio Martín, José Cañizares, Anibal Caraballo, Wilberto Barahona, and Manuel Hervás.

Since then, it has organized the inaugural speech of the Churriego Carnival, participating in the various events held during the ten days of the Carnival, as well as in the special day organized by each of the groups during these days.
