It’s already Carnival, National!
Nacho Guerreros, the first town crier to be declared a National Tourist Interest
Actor Nacho Guerreros, better known as “Coque” in the television series “La que se ha avecina,” has kicked off the 2019 Miguelturra Carnival, which for the first time has been declared a National Tourist Interest.
The Peña Los Segadores with its band, as is customary in our carnival, was in charge of organizing the event and from eight in the evening, local, provincial and regional authorities, along with members of the Association of Peñas, King of the Carnival, local Peñas and Major Masks, gathered at the doors of the Town Hall in the Plaza de España to welcome Nacho Guerreros.
After the reception, the delegation headed to the CERE (Center for Cultural Heritage) and visited the ‘MOMO‘ Carnival Museum. At 9:30 p.m. the long-awaited proclamation began, with a packed Carnival Palace. First, the mayor of the town, Victoria Sobrino, spoke. She thanked Nacho for his presence as the town crier for the Miguelturra Carnival and invited everyone to enjoy this wonderful festival, which in Miguelturra will be of National Tourist Interest for the first time.
A historic proclamation with history
Once the mayor’s speech was over, Nacho took the stage at the Carnival Palace and began the opening speech with a review of the history of our carnival. A carnival whose history has been passed down from generation to generation, with the first written record dating back to 1898. This record can be found in the History section of this website.
Nacho acknowledged his excitement at being the first town crier to be declared a National Tourist Attraction and gave a rundown of the various events held during our Carnival, including the Burial of the Sardine, the Fruit in a Pan, and the Piñata Sunday Parade.
Amid applause and cheers from the clubs, Nacho mentioned the local carnival clubs one by one, including typical phrases from his fictional character, “Coque.”
Once the proclamation was over, the procession headed to the Peña los Segadores headquarters, and along the way, Nacho kindly greeted the people who came to take photos with him.
Thank you very much, Nacho, for preparing a great 2019 Carnival for us.
